Creating an Atmosphere
These sounds describe Scene 9 in Act 2 of The Phantom of the Opera. It is a little scary, rushing, action, and chanting. I think the theme of this text was that if you love someone you are going to want them to be happy with their life. The setting of this is in the Phantom's lair and it is kind of a creepy and dark area but it is where he has lived his entire life and where he has hidden. In the scene that I am using the Phantom has taken Christine to his lair and forced a wedding dress onto her. She doesn't want to marry him but he thinks that is what is best. Raoul comes to save her and he ends up getting a noose hung around his neck. Christine finally kisses the Phantom and he realizes he wants her to be happy with Raoul instead. When the scene ends the Phantom is sitting alone crying and I think that is really what makes you realize this scene is kind of an angry but sad scene.
